INFORMATION

WELCOME

The Scout Association started with Boy Scouts in 1907. See also History of the Scouting.

WHAT DO SCOUTS DO?

Scouting contributes to the fulfilment of its members using a progressive and enjoyable values-based programme for personal development. It seeks to provide young people with opportunities to participate in adventurous outdoor activities, learn team-building skills and develop new friendships.

PATROLS

Troop members are arranged into Patrols, each (generally) named after a animal. Each ‘Patrol’ consists of approx. six children, ranging in age with the P.L. (patrol leader) helping the younger members.

UNIFORM

Scouting is a uniformed organisation and Scouts are expected to wear their uniforms to all Troop meetings, when arriving and departing from events (camps etc) and for parades. They are encouraged to take a pride in their uniforms and do their best to look clean and smart. It is not necessary for them to have a uniform until they are enrolled.

All new members are expected to purchase theirs from the local shop click hear for a list of shops.

You can also order on-line from the Scout Shops web site at

Refer to individual Group welcome pack/letter for specific uniform requirements. The Group neckerchief is presented at enrolment. Various badges are presented from time to time (usually free to members). The Scout Leaders will indicate the correct positions on uniforms.

Please label all items!
