District Appointments Advisory Committee

Firstly a big welcome and Thank You! We have created this page to inform you about the Appointments Committee process and to assure you it is not a formal interview, more of a conversation.

Thank you for coming forward to volunteer within Scouting in our District, Bristol South and your Scout Group, helping to prepare young people with ‘Skills for life’. As you may be aware as part of welcoming new volunteers or those changing their role you will need to attend the Appointments Committee (Don’t worry it is not scary or an interview and not a long process).

The committee panel is usually made up of three members (independent of the groups in the District, some have been in Scouting some haven’t), they will have a short informal chat with you about why you are joining Scouting and discuss with you the support you will get and what you may feel you need to be happy and effective in your role, perhaps how to bring your interests to Scouting. Their main purpose is to help ensure you have the right role for you. There is nothing to be worried about.

Once you have spoken with the committee, one of the members of the District Team may be there to have a chat with you about the District and how we can support you with training especially the ‘Let’s Get Started’ modules and answer any questions you may have. The whole process ideally taking no longer than an hour.

If you have any special requirements for the meeting you will be asked to let us know prior to it. We look forward to meeting all those coming forward to volunteer and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to make contact via the channels indicated on your invitation e-mail.

We look forward to meeting and talking with you, thank you again for your involvement.
