Bristol South Scout District – Boundary – Written Description
Taking the Ashton Court Estate as the start,
Note 1: Land on the estate ‘higher’ than the main deer park e.g. the plateau and golf course, plus the ‘Balloon Fiesta’ field are outside of the Bristol unitary authority boundary and therefore technically outside of the district, falling into the Gordano District area, however, see Note 2: below
Note 2: Where a part of an area is within the district boundary, also by virtue of its entrance(s), for the purposes of the requirement for DAN notification it is accepted that the entire area is ‘within’ that area, with the following caveat, that if a large scale, multi group or district event is to take place there a DAN from will need to be completed by the organiser.
From the ‘top’ of the estate the boundary runs to the Clifton Suspension bridge along the approach road, then drops to the middle of the River Avon, proceeding upstream to the Floating Harbour complex. Here the boundary follows a line along the northern quayside, bank or edge until it re-joins the River Avon.
The boundary proceeds along a river midline upstream through St. Annes and on to Brislington where at Fox’s Wood it leaves the river following Iron Mould Lane until it crosses the A4 (Bath Road) to Scotland Lane.
Continuing along the southern boundary of the Stockwood housing area, following Station Lane and crossing the A37 (Wells Road) to Church Lane. The line then proceeds on the southern boundary of the Whitchurch housing area to Queens Road and westward around the Withywood area approximately halfway up the hill ridgeline between the southern edge of the housing and Oxlease Lane.
Proceeding northeast to Highridge Common, skirting the western limit of the housing area to a point on the A38 (Bridgwater Road), which forms a farm access track and public footpath. Then skirting the eastern side of the A4174 (South Bristol Relief Road) to the A370 (Weston Road).
Note 3: The area of Highridge Common is within the district, the Park & Ride and David Lloyd Centre adjacent to the A370 are not.
The boundary then reconnects with the Ashton Court Estate, lower portion as described above.
