The District Board of Trustees [BOT] is made up of a small team of adults who support the development of Scouting and ensure that effective governance is in place for the charity. Bristol South Scouts are registered with The Charity Commission, no. 1091301.
Drawn from many fields of expertise, members do not need to have any previous Scouting knowledge or background, new faces are always welcome from those who wish to make a positive contribution to Scouting in Bristol South by conducting ‘the business of Scouting’. Also in the district there is a ‘District Support Team’ [DST] supporting the ‘front line’ delivery of Scouting.
The BOT and DST do not have roles with regularly timetabled commitments, it’s not all agendas and meetings behind the scenes! However, there are some regular meetings of each possibly some six times a year, plus an Annual General Meeting.
The BOT and DST can act as a discussion forums for issues and concerns, planning for continuity, circulation of ideas and potentially beneficial situations and ideas around the district. There is also our ’14-25 Team’ acting directly in a managerial oversight capacity of our Explorer Scout (Supernova & Spinnaker) and Scout Network (Gert Lush) units.
The ‘DST’ also acts in a less formal way so that specialist groups within the district can function, formerly our Active Support Unit, and the award-winning District Gang Show.
There exists a District (Leader/Helper) “Welcome Team” previously known as the Appointments Advisory Committee ‘DAAC’. The operation of this has changed during 2024 as part of The Scout Association’s ‘Transformation’ programme to update the way we welcome our new volunteers.
We are currently seeking interested individuals to fill the following specific volunteer posts, however, enquires from any interested persons interested in joining ‘our teams’ in any capacity are welcomed. New skills and experiences are always welcomed. Please note as part of our processes Disclosure & Barring Services [DBS] and/or Charity Trustee eligibility checks will need to be undertaken and Safety/Safeguarding learning/training may be required.
- District Secretary – (co-ordinates the administration of the district supporting BOT and leadership team members)
- District Website & Social Media Manager – (it may be possible to split these roles)
- Manager for our Eastwinds Scout Activity Centre – (overseeing use of and co-ordinating maintanitance of, forming a team if they so wish)
