DC Christmas letter 2022
To all Scouting volunteers in Bristol South District
Thanks to all our volunteers for helping us make 2022 such a memorable year.
As I look back on the last year, its worth remembering the massive rebuilding efforts we all undertook just to get scouting back on its feet.
A year ago, we were looking forward to recommencing District activities such as St Georges Day Parade, The Big Fiesta and the District Gang Show. These have all taken place with hundreds of young people participating and no major hitches. We also managed to sneak in the cubs Pinewood Derby last month as well.
Most recently we held our Taster Day for NextGen GSLs and Commissioners Training Day and I’m delighted to say it was so well received we will be holding Part 2 on 4th February.
At group level, we have held loads of camps and outdoor activities. We opened our first 2 Squirrel Dreys at 11th Bristol and Windmill Hill, and we have seen a new scout troop start up at 148th Bristol. The majority of our groups are thriving with numbers above or close to pre pandemic levels.
I have been fortunate to visit all of our groups this year and its always a privilege to see how much our young people are enjoying their scouting.
None of this could be achieved without our leaders and volunteers. No contribution is too small. I know that none of you do it for reward or recognition but nevertheless it was great for Avon Scouts to receive recognition through the Queens Award for Voluntary service.
What a way to end the scouting year.
Wishing a very Merry Christmas to you and yours
Paul
