WELCOME

When a child joins a Cub Pack, they are joining the exciting world of Scouting. Some have moved on from Beaver Colonies and Cubs are the next step to becoming a Scout. The Scout Association started Cubs (Wolf Cubs) in 1916. See also History of Scouting.

MEMBERSHIP OF A CUB PACK

Cubs usually operate as mixed packs, for 8 – 10½ year olds and generally meet one evening per week during term time, usually in a Group HQ. Some specialist venues are occasionally used and prior notice is always given.

·        Cub numbers are limited and whilst packs are inevitably full, there is a waiting list. You may discuss this with the Cub leader. Places can become available, generally through existing members progressing to a Scout Troop

CUB PROMISE AND MOTTO.

The basic principles of Cub Scouting are contained within the promise, law & motto.

The Cub Scout Promise is:

I promise that I will do my best
To do my duty to God and to the Queen,
To help other people
And to keep the Cub Scout Law

The Cub Scout Law is:

Cub Scouts always do their best
Think of others before themselves
And do a good turn every day.

The Cub Scout Motto is :

Be Prepared

WHAT DO CUB SCOUTS DO?

There are loads of fun things that Cub Scout can do. They get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If they do them properly they get a badge which they wear on their uniform.

Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes they will be able to go camping with the rest of the Pack. This will mean they sleep in tents and participate in many outdoor activities.

SIXES

Cub Pack members are arranged into sixes, each named after a colour. Each ‘six’ member wears a woggle (the fastening for the neckerchief) of their ‘six’ colour and this is supplied at enrolment. Each ‘six’ consists of approx. six children, ranging in age with the sixer (six leader) helping the younger members.

UNIFORM

Scouting is a uniformed organisation and Cubs are expected to wear their uniforms to all Pack meetings, when arriving and departing from events (camps etc) and for parades. They are encouraged to take a pride in their uniforms and do their best to look clean and smart. It is not necessary for them to have a uniform until they are enrolled.

All new members are expected to purchase theirs from the local shop click hear for a list of shops.

You can also order on-line from the Scout Shops web site at

MOVING ON TO SCOUTS

When 10½ years of age, all the young members are required to take part in a 3-4 week link (moving on) period where they attend both Cub Pack and Scout Troop meetings.

More information will be available at the appropriate time.
